Best Tailgating In The NFC East: Where Do The Washington Commanders Rank?
Fact Checked by Jim Tomlin

It has been four years since the Washington Commanders last savored a division championship. Unsurprisingly, that lack of on-field success combined with the unfriendly confines at Landover’s Commanders Field also hurt Washington’s NFL tailgating rankings within the division.

BetVirginia.com, as part of our unique insights into Virginia sports betting, wanted to see which NFL teams have the best tailgating scenes. We used Stadium-Journey.com and Sports-Reference.com to create a scoring system that factors in food and beverages, atmosphere, fans, return on investment, and each team’s record from the 2023-24 season.

The DMV’s oldest NFL franchise finished third, fourth and fourth in the four-team NFC East in the past three seasons. That’s about where the Commanders rank entering the 2024 season. Caesars Sportsbook Virginia has Washington holding +1000 NFC East winner odds, putting the club third behind the Philadelphia Eagles (-130) and Dallas Cowboys (+175) but ahead of the New York Giants (+1200).

Where Commanders Rank in NFC East Tailgating

Of the four teams in Washington’s division, none scored as low as the Commanders for the metrics we used to determine our NFL tailgating rankings. The capital’s team has a total score of 162 points.

That put Washington behind NFC East leading Dallas (209 points), Philadelphia (204) and New York (186), illustrating how far the Commanders have fallen from their glory days at RFK Stadium in D.C. in the 20th century. Now, first-year Washington head coach Dan Quinn and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels are tasked with surprising oddsmakers and football fans alike this fall. They, and a host of new players and assistant coaches, will be trying to restore some gridiron glory to a franchise that’s starting from the bottom, both when it comes to X’s and O’s success and extracurricular excellence.
