Who Regulates Sports Wagering?

The Washington, D.C. Office of Lottery and Gaming, or the OLG D.C., is the regulatory body in the District of Columbia that oversees sports wagering, amongst other things.

List of Different License Classes Available

  • Class A: Allows for major sports venues such as Nationals Park to host sports wagering on their premises.
  • Class B: Individual(s) or entities operating private sports wagering facilities such as the Cloakroom.
  • Class C: Allows sports wagering licenses over mobile or online apps to sports teams (excluding the Washington Commanders) playing home games in D.C.

How Much Are Sports Betting Operators Taxed?

Sports betting operators are taxed 10% on monthly gross gaming revenue. Those with a Class A and Class C license are now taxed 20%.
