Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential odds have shifted significantly since she debated Donald Trump on Sept 10. Entering the debate, Harris and Trump were in a dead heat to win the Oval Office in November. Then, after a strong debate performance and an endorsement from a particular pop star, Harris became the slight favorite over Trump to win the election.
But with just a few days to election day, Harris again has fallen behind Trump, and may be running out of time.

Harris in late August secured the nomination at the Democratic Party's National Convention amid rousing speeches and a who's who of speakers and celebrities. President Biden, Barack Obama, Michelle Obama and Bill Clinton were among those who spoke on Harris' behalf, urging the American public to embrace the reality of the country's first female president rather than a second term from Trump.
Among the celebrities who turned out for Harris were acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee, actors Eva Longoria, Mindy Kaling, Kerry Washington, Mark Hamill and Tony Goldwyn, Warriors coach (and fresh off a Gold Medal in Paris) Steve Kerr, and musicians Patti LaBelle, Common, James Taylor and Jason Isbell.
While the convention was certainly a success for Harris and her team, Trump and the Republicans are not going away.
Taylor Swift Endorses Kamala Harris After Debate
One of the notable fallouts from Harris' strong debate performance against Trump on Sept. 10 was an official endorsement from pop sensation Taylor Swift. Swift’s post also directed her followers to register to vote, and this could help more younger voters turn out on election day for Harris.

*Latest VP odds on bet365 before Harris made her selection
After a few weeks of vetting and interviewing candidates, Harris went with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate on Aug. 6. Walz beat out candidates such as Arizona U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (-400) had been a heavy favorite, as he is a popular Democrat who leads a must-win state for Democrats to retain the White House.
Meanwhile, Kelly had been thrown out as a potential VP pick for Harris’ campaign, thanks in large part to his ability to win a Senate seat in what was once a Republican stronghold, as he became the first junior Democratic Senator from the Grand Canyon State since 1962 when he knocked off Republican incumbent Martha McSally in 2020.
Despite being from a highly conservative state, Beshear is one of the most popular governors in the country, regardless of party. A July 24 report from Morning Consult found Beshear has an approval rating of 67% and a net approval of +39.
Walz Appointment Helped Harris Early
In the first few days following Harris naming Walz her VP, she overtook Trump on the bet365 oddsboard, signaling the Democratic voters are highly in favor of the Minnesota Gov. Walz also garnered favor in Chicago at the convention, where he took a lead role for the first time in his career in front of the party. The N.Y. Times wrote, "The universal assessment of Mr. Walz from longtime friends and political allies is that he is precisely what he appears to be on television. ... Democratic delegates said Mr. Walz just looked like a regular guy they would like to meet."
The first vice presidential debate hosted by CBS News was Oct. 1 in New York City, with Walz and Vance both agreeing to participate. The debate was moderated by "CBS Evening News" anchor and managing editor Norah O'Donnell and "Face the Nation" moderator and CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan.
Where Does Kamala Harris Sit in Presidential Polls?
Breaking Down Kamala Harris' Approval Rating in 2024
Harris, like Biden, was previously underwater in approval polls in early 2024. One taken earlier this summer by YouGov for The Economist showed 53% disapproved of her, compared to 37% who liked the job she was doing. In the same poll, 58% did not like the job Biden has done in office, compared to 37% who liked his performance.
However, Harris has gained significant momentum in the past two months thanks to fundraising and the Democratic Party rallying around her once Biden announced he would not seek reelection. Her pick of Walz has also seemingly galvanized her supporters, while Trump's pick of J.D. Vance has raised eyebrows.
Harris does still have work to do, and is unlikely to ever gain favor with staunch Trump defenders. A FiveThirtyEight poll on Aug. 18 showed Harris has a 41% approval rating, while 49.6% voiced disapproval.

Looking Ahead: What Are Harris’ Odds to be President in 2028?
This question is now totally in flux. Now that Kamala Harris has officially earned the Democratic nomination, if she wins the 2024 election she’d probably be favored out of the gate to be re-elected in 2028.
But if she loses to Trump this November? She would have plenty of company in four years. California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and other Democrats could vie for the nomination at that time. Would the Dems run Harris again in 2028 if she loses the White House this time around?

Kamala Harris Odds FAQs
Kamala Harris is now the Democratic nominee as the presidential candidate. At bet365, Harris has +140 odds to win in November.
Kamala Harris meets the qualifications to run for president as set out by the U.S. Constitution. She is 59 years of age (the minimum age is 35). She is a natural-born citizen, having been born in Oakland, Calif., and she has lived in the U.S. for at least the past 14 years.
Kamala Harris is performing better in some polls than her boss, President Joe Biden. A recent CNN poll found Harris within the margin of error in a head-to-head race versus former President Donald Trump. In that poll, Trump beats Harris 47-45, but he beats Biden 49-43.
As the CNN poll shows, Kamala Harris could beat Donald Trump in November, as she is more popular with independents and moderates than Trump. A strong performance on the campaign trail could easily swing the race in her favor.
Harris ran for the 2020 Democratic nomination as a U.S. senator from California. However, she shut down that effort in December 2019, two months before the Iowa caucuses kicked off the election season. In August 2020, she became Joe Biden’s pick for vice president. She is running for president in 2024 and has become the Democratic Party's nominee.
