Washington Commanders Next Head Coach Odds

Washington Commanders Next Head Coach Odds

*Update: On February 1, 2024 the Washington Commanders announced the hiring of Dan Quinn, former defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys. Quinn has previous head coaching experience during his tenure in Atlanta, leading the Falcons to one Super Bowl appearance. Quinn is replacing Ron Rivera as the Commanders Head Coach.

The Washington Commanders are in an archetypal stage of rebuilding a pro sports franchise. Ownership is relatively new. The head coach, a holdover for one season, has been fired after a disappointing campaign across Virginia sports betting. And key roster positions, namely quarterback, raise doubts.

Commanders owner Josh Harris, whose group bought the Washington team from Dan Snyder, dismissed head coach Ron Rivera, who had control of football operations, the morning after a 4-13 season ended.

To begin a new era, he hired two well-known sports executives to lead the search for the franchise’s next head coach. Those executives are former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers and former Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman.

The race to replace Rivera as the next head coach of the Commanders took a swing on Tuesday when a presumed frontrunner for the job formally backed out to return to the Detroit Lions. Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson declined to take any NFL head coaching jobs, leaving teams with openings like the Commanders to dig deeper in their respective coaching searches.

Then on Wednesday, another possibility took the Seahawks head coach position, with 36-year-old Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald off to replace Pete Carroll.

That leaves a host of internal and external candidates for the position, as Washington looks to find the right man to guide the franchise back to the NFL Playoffs for the first time since 2020.

With all that in mind, BetVirginia.com broke down which head coaching candidate has the best odds of replacing Rivera in D.C.

Cowboys' Dan Quinn the Next Commanders Head Coach?

The now odds-on favorite to become the next head coach of the Commanders is a 53-year-old defensive coordinator of America's team, as Dan Quinn is our frontrunner for the job, at +300. Quinn of course nearly delivered a Super Bowl to Atlanta in 2017 before his Falcons blew a 28-3 lead to Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and the Patriots. But after a few strong seasons in Dallas under Mike McCarthy, Quinn looks poised for a second chance at running his own team.

The New Jersey native beats out Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and current Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who are listed at +400 apiece, to replace Rivera.

Other longshot candidates include Ravens defensive line coach Anthony Weaver, who checks in at +800, while a pair of recently fired NFL head coaches, in Mike Vrabel and Bill Belichick, are listed at +1750. Right now, what we know is that Johnson and Macdonald will not be the next leaders of the NFL team that calls the Nation’s Capital home, forcing the newly-hired GM Adam Peters to dig a bit deeper in his quest to find the next leader in Landover.

Keep it here for the Commanders Super Bowl odds heading into next season, whomever the coach may be.
