One of the most talented quarterbacks outside the Power Four leagues in the Football Bowl Subdivision is on the open market, in what could be a Virginia sports betting development worth watching. Liberty Flames gunslinger Kaidon Salter has entered the NCAA transfer portal after throwing for more than 5,800 yards and 55 touchdowns in three seasons in Lynchburg.
Salter had a down year in 2024 after being named the Conference USA Most Valuable Player in 2023. This season he threw for 1,886 yards and 15 touchdowns in 11 games for the 8-3 Flames, but he is a tantalizing target for a Power Four team this offseason.
With that in mind, BetVirginia.com broke down some hypothetical odds for which team will land the Texas native. Donāt forget to check out our real money Virginia sportsbook promos when you sign up to wager.

Salterās former head coach, Hugh Freeze of Auburn, leads the way in the race to land Salter, the redshirt junior signalcaller, this offseason. Auburn has been our favorite through a few updates to these odds.
Salter had a dream season in 2023, throwing for 2,876 yards and 32 touchdowns in leading the Flames to an undefeated regular season and their first trip to a New Yearās Day Six game at the Fiesta Bowl. He was third in the nation in pass efficiency rating (176.6) and passing yards per completion (16.2).
This season, Liberty went 8-3 overall, 5-3 in CUSA, and missed qualifying for the conference championship game. A reminder: Virginia does not allow wagering on in-state college teams. But nationally, Caesars Sportsbook has installed Liberty as a 2.5-point favorite over Buffalo in the Bahamas Bowl, to be played Jan. 4 in Nassau, Bahamas.
Freeze and the Tigers are our top suitor for Salterās services, with +400 odds of the SEC stalwart landing the former four-star recruit. The Florida State Seminoles and Syracuse Orange, both of the ACC, are right behind Auburn at +450 apiece.
Auburn struggled to a 5-7 finish in 2024 after starting the year 2-1 ā in fact, Freeze is on our list of college football hot seat odds at BetVirginia. But if the coach stays, he has history with Salter. Payton Thorne has exhausted his NCAA eligibility as Auburnās starter after throwing for 21 touchdowns and 2,713 yards as a senior on The Plains.
Syracuse head coach Fran Brown also needs a new QB in 2025, as former Ohio State Buckeyes star Kyle McCord exits after his final season of eligibility. McCord threw for 4,326 yards and 29 touchdowns in his lone season with the ACC program. FSU, which crashed from the heights of a 13-0 regular season and an ACC title in 2023 to a 2-10 campaign this season, also are on the QB market.
Longer shots to land Salter include Colorado at +800, Indiana and UCLA at +1100 each, plus others.
Whichever FBS program lands Salter out of the transfer portal is getting a QB thatās capable of achieving great things. The three-year starter for the Flames could be the next great transfer gunslinger in college footballās upper echelon.
Donāt forget our Virginia college football betting guide as Liberty gets ready for its postseason trip to face the Bulls in the Bahamas, along with 80 other bowl-bound teams in FBS.
