Last year, the Philadelphia Phillies comfortably won the National League East by six games over the Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets, while the Washington Nationals finished 24 games out. Will the Nats and their Virginia sports betting backers see better things soon? The Nationals and Braves have both won World Series titles since 2019.
Spring training is a bit more than a month away. So BetVirginia.com was curious about which teams in the NL East have the greatest potential for success in the coming years based on their farm systems. We used MLB.com, FanGraphs.com and Baseball-Reference.com to create a ranking system that factors the average future value of the top 10 prospects for each team, overall farm system ranking, and the number of players in the top 100 prospects around baseball.
Rank | Team | Score |
1 | New York Mets | 65 |
2 | Washington Nationals | 63.8 |
3 | Philadelphia Phillies | 63.3 |

This year, oddsmakers from DraftKings foresee a return to prominence for the Braves, who are the preseason favorites to win the NL East at +145, just ahead of the Mets (+180) and Phillies (+200).
Washington is a distant fourth at +1300 preseason odds to win the division, with the Miami Marlins ā who are coming off of a 100-loss season ā bringing up the rear, drawing +25000 odds at DraftKings Virginia Sportsbook.
As for Washingtonās future prospects, FanGraphs.com ranks the Nationals 14th out of 30 teams with a total system value figure of $174 million. Thatās just behind the Philliesā total of $180 million and the Mets, who are seventh at $191 million, in the division.
Of the five teams in the NL East, the Mets finished with the top score across our metrics, with 65 points. The Nationals are a close second at 63.8, according to our calculations, just ahead of the Phillies, who finished third overall with a score of 63.3 points. The Marlins (60.6 points) and Braves (41.7) rounded out the list for 2025.
Caesars Virginia Sportsbook has three NL East teams among its top five favorites to win the 2025 World Series ā the Mets are tied for second at +800 odds, alongside the reigning AL champion New York Yankees. The Braves are fourth at +850 and the Phillies are No. 5 with +1100 odds. The defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers lead the pack at +320; the Nationals are near the bottom at +15000.
In the MLB.com top 100 prospects list, youāll find four Nats players, including outfielder Dylan Crews at No. 1. Crews made his MLB debut last year, playing 31 games; he only had 119 at-bats so heās still eligible for NL Rookie of the Year honors in 2025. MLB.com polled executives recently about who would win NL Rookie of the Year and half of the respondents picked Crews. Our Washington Nationals odds page helps you compare various operators so you can get the best betting lines.
In the nationās capital, baseball fans can only hope that this yearās Nats team fares better than a year ago. In 2024, Washington sputtered to a 71-91 (.438) finish with a minus-104 run differential.
Luckily for baseball fans in D.C., thereās plenty of help coming from the teamās farm system. Washington is ranking near the top of the NL Eastās farm system rankings as we head toward the first pitch of the 2025 MLB regular season in ballparks across America this spring.
