Several outlets reported on Tuesday that the Washington Commanders have given defensive lineman Jonathan Allen permission to seek a trade.
Allen, 30, who switched from end to defensive tackle a couple of years ago, missed about half of the 2024-25 NFL season with a torn pectoral muscle. After playing the first six games, he returned from his injury on Dec. 29, in time to play the last two games of the regular season and all three of Washington’s playoff games.
BetVirgina.com wondered who might seek a trade if the Commanders move on from the eight-year veteran, a two-time Pro Bowl selection. Turn to us for the best Virginia sportsbook promos too.

San Francisco 49ers | +1250 | 7.4% |

The Washington Commanders are coming off a 12-5 season in which they reached the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991. Quarterback Jayden Daniels was named Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year and head coach Dan Quinn has put in place a team that looks set to compete for the long haul. Keep up with their Virginia sports betting odds through the offseason and into next fall at BetVirginia.
This early in the offseason, we believe that the most likely team to have Allen for 2025 is the one that has him now. We give the Commanders +400 odds of retaining their first-round draft pick from 2017. Just because Allen has permission to seek a new team, there’s no guarantee that Washington will find a trading partner willing to compensate the team in the manner it wishes. Allen had three sacks and 19 tackles in eight regular-season games in 2024-25.

Most of the teams on our list are in the AFC. If Allen goes to one of those teams, he would be far less likely to haunt the Commanders if he returns to his top form.
We have the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills at +800 odds each, or an 11.1% implied probability, to acquire Allen. Buffalo was 17th in the league in total defense and the Bengals slumped to No. 25 last season.
An intriguing possibility for a trade is the NFC East rival Cowboys, at +1100 odds. Dallas was an abysmal 28th in total defense this past season.
The most likely odds on our board are on the field – in other words, any other team not on the list above.
Washington Commanders Super Bowl odds are already out for next season (NFL wagering interest never ceases, it just takes a breath to recalibrate the odds for the following season). The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles are favored at odds between +600 and +650.
The Commanders are between +1800 and +2200, depending on the operator.
