One of the most solid defensive linemen in the NFL has piled his trade in the trenches of the league for the Washington Commanders over the past seven seasons. Former first-round draft pick Jonathan Allen has become a feared pass rusher during that time.
At BetVirginia.com, we continue our Virginia sports betting coverage by using Pro-Football-Reference.com to calculate his average sacks, tackles, and quarterback hits per season. We use those numbers as a reference point to see if a Jonathan Allen rebound is in the cards this season after he had an off year, at least for statistics, in 2023-24. We also will compare his stats to his best year statistics.

Allen has racked up an approximate value of 54 in 101 games, with 39 sacks and 57 tackles for loss in the nationās capital since entering the league in 2017, according to Pro-Football-Reference.com.
But the 29-year-old Alabama product struggled (by his standards) a year ago. Thatās because Allen posted a career low (full season) AV of six in 16 games for the Commanders in 2023, with his lowest sack total (5.5) since 2020 and the fewest total tackles (53) in a full season so far.

While no one (not even Allen) can predict how the veteran defensive lineman will perform in the year ahead, we know where the Commanders stand when it comes to odds at Virginia sportsbook apps. The outlook is not good for the franchiseās odds of winning its first Super Bowl since the 1991 season.
Still, Commanders fans can only hope Allen will find the form that allowed him to shine on the sportās biggest stage in 2021. That season, he posted career highs for sacks (9.0), TFL (16.0) and QB hits (30), with impressive total tackle (60) and AV (10) figures.
Allenās road to a bounce-back season begins in Week 1, when Washington opens the 2024 NFL regular season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road on Sept. 8. Check out our Commanders vs. Buccaneers odds for that game, when first-year head coach Dan Quinn will be looking for a signature victory out of the gate as the Commanders look to reach the postseason for the first time since 2020.
