The past half a decade has been anything but pleasant for baseball fans in the nation’s capital, but there’s reason for optimism that Washington Nationals odds might be a good bet in 2025. The Nationals feature one of the most promising lineups in Major League Baseball, with former top farmhands like James Wood, CJ Abrams and Jackson Rutledge leading the franchise forward in 2025.
Washington’s past two years have ended in identical 71-91 (.438) finishes, but is the stage set for the Nationals to return to the sport’s postseason in 2025? They have a preseason win total over/under of 72.5 and +850 odds of reaching the playoffs, per DraftKings Sportsbook Virginia.
BetVirginia.com was curious which teams are projected to have the youngest rosters in the MLB. Using projected 26-man rosters on FanGraphs.com, we calculated the average age for each team and ranked the top 10 youngest teams.
Rank | Team | Total Score |
1 | Miami Marlins | 27.45 |
2 | Tampa Bay Rays | 27.84 |
3 | Cleveland Guardians | 27.88 |
4 | Washington Nationals | 28.20 |
5 | St. Louis Cardinals | 28.29 |
6 | Athletics | 28.44 |
T7 | Detroit Tigers | 28.77 |
T7 | Chicago White Sox | 28.77 |
9 | Colorado Rockies | 28.84 |
10 | Milwaukee Brewers | 28.94 |
The Nationals made the most of their last trek to the playoffs in 2019, winning the club’s lone World Series championship in 2019 over the Houston Astros.
This year, things don’t look as rosy for Washington, at least according to the oddsmakers. Caesars Virginia Sportsbook gives Washington the second-longest odds of any team at winning the NL East, at +8000, ranking ahead of the miserable Marlins, who are listed at +25000 as of March 7.
The operator also has +8500 odds to win the NL pennant and a +15000 line on the franchise winning the second World Series championship, joining that memorable run in 2019.

Of the 30 MLB teams, the Nationals’ average age of 28.20 years puts Washington as the fourth youngest team in The Show. That’s behind only the Miami Marlins (average age 27.45), Tampa Bay Rays (27.84) and Cleveland Guardians (27.88).
Leaguewide, the Nats finished ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals (28.29), Athletics (28.44), Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers (28.77). The Colorado Rockies (28.84) and Milwaukee Brewers (28.94) rounded out the list of the 10 youngest teams in the league this year, which is insight that could come in handy for Virginia sports betting.
For manager Dave Martinez and the Nationals, 2025 is a year brimming with potential and promise, as Washington gets to see how the team’s cadre of rising stars fare in the Big Leagues after years of promise in the minors. Those young players – including 17 out of the 26 players on their projected roster who have not yet turned 30 – have a shot to show what they can do after years of watching from afar.
