The top Halloween costume among Virginia residents for 2024 is Wednesday Addams, whose character has had a few revivals in the past 60 years.
The original television show “The Addams Family” ran from 1964-66, complete with an iconic, finger-snaping theme. But the genesis of the family was a single-panel comic strip from creator Charles Addams, which ran in The New Yorker beginning in 1938.
The TV show helped launch a franchise that has had many iterations over the past several decades, including "The Addams Family” movie from 1991, starring Raul Julia, Angelica Houston – and Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams. Sequels, an animated series and other entries to the franchise followed.
The character’s popularity has soared again with the Netflix series “Wednesday” that stars Jenna Ortega in the title role. Season 1 ran in 2022 and reports indicate that Season 2 will air in 2025.
According to our data, Wednesday Addams scored highest with 33 search interest points. If you’re interested in lifestyle tidbits, our list of best television shows set in Virginia is one of many pop culture stories at BetVirginia.com.
Coming second on our list with 31 search interest points is an old standby, a witch costume. Hero Magazine has an article devoted to witches and Halloween – helpfully informing readers that it is a day on the Wiccan calendar known as Samhain Eve, or the end of summer.
Other classics pop up on our list, such as princess, clown, pirate and that beloved “What do you mean you forgot tomorrow was Halloween?” standby, the ghost.
Superheroes are represented in the top 10 most popular Halloween costumes in 2024 thanks to Batman, Spider-Man and Deadpool. And the release of the new movie “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has helped the title character climb into the top 10 looks that you might see on Oct. 31 as you hand out candy.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” was released in September and is the sequel to the 1988 hit movie “Beetlejuice” with Michael Keaton. He returns for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” along with original cast members Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara.
