People make all kinds of promises to themselves as each December ends, which is how New Year’s resolutions spring up.
How long those resolutions last beyond Jan. 1 is another matter.
Heading into the last month of the year, people are thinking about what they accomplished in 2024 and what they want to achieve in 2025. At BetVirginia.com, where we always keep our resolution to deliver real money Virginia sports betting promos to you, we used Google Trends to find and rank the top five most common New Year’s resolutions for Virginia residents. The search was conducted from Dec. 1, 2023 to Jan. 2, 2024. The ranking is based on search interest score.
Rank | Resolution | Search Interest Score |
1 | Save Money | 89 |
2 | Travel More | 82 |
3 | Limit Caffeine | 77 |
4 | Learn More | 76 |
5 | Read More | 76 |
The top two resolutions are quite common, though they might seem disconnected.
The top New Year’s goal in the commonwealth during the time span we studied, with a search interest score of 89, is to save money. According to the U.S. Inflation Calculator website, that should be easier now than it has been in the past few years. The average inflation rate, which spiked to 7% during 2021, has fallen to 2.7% in 2024, not including the December numbers that will roll in during January.
The second-most common thing that folks in the land of Virginia sports betting have on their wish list is to travel more (search interest 82). Again, this might not line up perfectly with resolution No. 1, but folks can travel and still save money, or at least spend less than they thought for a vacation. For instance, a picnic lunch while you’re on the road can be a nice way to enjoy nature. It’s cheaper than another restaurant meal and might give you a chance to sample, say, a small farmer’s market and see what’s fresh that day.
The desire to learn more and read more also dot our list, tied for fourth with a search interest score of 76. You need to stay awake for both, so drink plenty of coffee … wait, no. Scratch that. No. 3 on our list is limiting caffeine.
Still, learning more and reading more are inexorably linked and it makes sense that those two goals are adjoined on our list. If you want to read more reviews of Virginia sportsbook apps, there’s no need to wait until Jan. 1 to keep that resolution. Just bookmark BetVirginia.com and you’re all set.
