As people reflect on their year, the desire to get into shape during the New Year resurfaces for many Americans. At BetVirginia.com, where we flex the best Virginia sports betting promo codes, we wanted to find out which states have residents who are most actively interested in finding a gym. Using Google Trends, we ranked the top 10 states searching “gym near me” from Dec. 12-19, 2024.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website lists seven benefits of regular physical activity, including controlling weight, reducing certain health risks, increasing lifespan and more.
The home of Virginia sportsbooks is one of the 10 states most interested in gym information.
For that matter, East Coast states did very well in our study. New Jersey was first with a search interest score of 100, followed by Maryland at 83 and Florida at 81. The only states in the middle of the country to make our top 10 were Texas and Illinois (73 search interest each), which tied Connecticut and Georgia for fourth.
It might be surprising to find that western states with reputations for being health conscious, such as California and Colorado, did not make our list. Perhaps folks there already know all they need to know about gym memberships?
If you’d rather watch sports instead, or you like to follow sporting events while you’re cooling down after a workout? We have you covered at BetVirginia.com with Washington Commanders playoff chances as the NFL team aims for its first postseason appearance since the 2020 season.
