One of the most timeless pieces of cinema for Americans of the Millennial generation was a eight-part series of fantasy flicks based of novelist J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” series.
The series, which ran from 2001 through 2011, followed the hijinks of young sorcerer Harry and his pals at Hogwarts School, pitting the cast of characters against a metaphysical cast of nemeses.
BetVirginia.com took a break from reviewing Virginia sports betting apps for a spell so we could analyze which movies in the Harry Potter franchise were most popular among Virginia residents. Using Google Trends, we looked at search results of each movie over a one-year span from July 18, 2023 to July 18, 2024.
Rank | Harry Potter Movie | Level of Interest |
1 | Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone | 31 |
2 | Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire | 12 |
T3 | Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix | 11 |
T3 | Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets | 11 |
T3 | Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban | 11 |
T6 | Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 | 9 |
T6 | Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince | 9 |
8 | Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 | 4 |
In the Commonwealth, it seems residents can’t get enough of the 2001 debut film of the series, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” That release posted the highest search interest score of the bunch, at 31, compared to other topics.
According to our research, the first film of the Harry Potter series edged the 2005 film, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”
That fourth installment of the Potter series scored a search interest total of 12 to finish second. That was just ahead of thee others that tied for third – those films all earned a score of 11. They were “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”
Up next in the state that offers Virginia sports betting were two more films, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” Each had search interest totals of nine. At the bottom of our list was the final film of the series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.”
Overall, it’s fair to say that Virginians have a lot of interest in the Harry Potter series, even though the eighth and final installment of the set was released 13 years ago across the globe.
