A pivotal season in Blacksburg has kicked off for college football and Virginia sports betting. Third-year Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry seeks to turn the tide on what has been a slow start to his run. Pry has posted seasons of 3-8 and 7-6 with Virginia Tech, but there’s reason for optimism at the Virginia institution, even after a close loss to Vanderbilt to start the year.
All year long, BetVirginia.com will update Virginia Tech’s football bowl game odds. This week’s edition includes postseason stops in Boston, Orlando, The Bronx and San Diego.
Bowl | Location | Conference Opponent | Odds | Percentage Chance |
Wasabi Fenway Bowl | Boston, MA | vs. AAC | +400 | 20.0% |
Pop-Tarts Bowl | Orlando, FL | vs. Big 12 | +450 | 18.2% |
Pinstripe Bowl | Bronx, NY | vs. Big Ten | +500 | 16.7% |
Holiday Bowl | San Diego, CA | vs. TBD (used to be Pac-12) | +500 | 16.7% |
ReliaQuest Bowl | Tampa, FL | vs. Big Ten or SEC | +600 | 14.3% |
The Field / No Bowl | +700 | 12.5% |
Between 1993 and 2019, the Hokies made a bowl game each year. Frank Beamer turned the tide on the program as a member of the Big East and later the ACC. Since 2014, Beamer’s second-to-last season, VT has played in the Military Bowl, Independence Bowl, Belk Bowl, Camping World Bowl and the Pinstripe Bowl. There are plenty of Virginia sportsbook apps offering college football futures and game lines, but these projections are exclusive to BetVirginia.
The Hokies chances to reach the playoffs aren't great this fall, especially after a Week 1 loss to Vanderbilt. Their best season came in 1999, when they went undefeated in the regular season and reached the Bowl Championship Series title game before losing to Florida State in the Sugar Bowl.
This year, we see Tech’s best bowl game odds being the Wasabi Fenway Bowl in Boston, which is listed at +400 odds after the Week 1 loss to Vanderbilt. Operators offering Virginia sportsbook promotions cannot accept wagers on in-state colleges in the commonwealth.
Other destinations that we project as possible bowl spots for VT are the Pop-Tarts Bowl in Orlando (+450), and the Pinstripe Bowl and Holiday Bowl (+500 each).
The Hokies have never played in the Holiday Bowl, with the school’s lone trip to the Golden State coming in the 2002 San Francisco Bowl on the heels of a 10-4 campaign under Beamer.
Year | Bowl | Result |
2023 | Military Bowl | Win, 41-20 against Tulane |
2022 | No Bowl Game |
|
2021 | Pinstripe Bowl | Loss, 54-10 against Maryland |
2020 | No Bowl Game |
|
2019 | Belk Bowl | Loss, 37-30 against Kentucky |
Since 2019, Tech has played in three bowl games, reaching the 2019 Belk Bowl in Charlotte, the 2021 Pinstripe Bowl inside Yankees Stadium and the 2023 Military Bowl in Annapolis against Tulane.
The program’s record in those three bowl games is 1-2, with a victory over the Green Wave a year ago, offset by losses to Maryland (54-10) in 2021 and Kentucky (37-30) in 2019. That gives Pry something to shoot for in his third year in Blacksburg this fall.
